THE INCIDENT 2

Emmy Mawumenyo in gold-rimmed glasses, holding a baby on her shoulder.

I waited on the Lord, 12 hours each day for the fruit of the womb. I just needed a baby so badly, I prayed for a child.

One who will be healthy for all of his or her life. I prayed because I didn’t want a situation where a hospital will NEED the father of my child.

I needed desperately to keep it a secret, so I prayed. Day and night, I prayed for 7 straight days. Don’t ask me why I prayed for 7 days, I don’t know. That’s what felt right to me.

I ignored every thought on it afterwards, I was almost forgetting and begun building my life without a thought for a baby again, when I discovered I took in.

I couldn’t rejoice anymore. I was devastated. I took a decision in a moment’s desire without considering the consequences and then chose to ignore, forgetting I did nothing to prevent it. I couldn’t think straight.

I had made plans. Plans for myself. Plans to better myself and here I was, living a reality I didn’t fully prepare for.

I became scared, worried and frustrated. Depression caught on so fast before my feet could find the ground. How will life continue?

… to be continued.
